In my experience of dating the last 15-years or so since divorce, what I’ve clearly noticed is that many of the men (especially online dating sites) but also out in the world organically, are obsessed with a woman’s age. I’m speaking about men in my age category who only want to be with a woman 10–20 years younger regardless of their looks, status, education, or success. What a woman is about and has to offer is far less important. One time, when I met a man from a dating site (couple years younger than me) for a glass of wine, sitting straight across from me, one of the first things he said had to do with confirming my age. Really? Is that an alluring question? American men are far more obsessed with age than European men, which I prefer. European men (and one Turkish man) connect differently and more in alignment with my cultural and artistic interests anyway. They look at women differently (for who they are and see their beauty) and they never ask me my age because that’s something they’re not hung up on. Our society in this country is far more focused on youth to be beautiful, which is not only narrow-minded, but boring.
